Romanovs` art collection to go under hammer at Sotheby`s
Items from the art collection of Russia`s Romanov royal family are to go under the hammer at Sotheby`s in November, the auction house said on Tuesday.
Personal and rare objects belonging to Her Imperial Highness Grand Duchess Maria Pavlovna (1854-1920) and her husband, His Imperial Highness Grand Duke Vladimir Alexandrovich (1847-1909), including Faberge pieces, will be put on sale.
"We are absolutely thrilled to be offering for sale one of the most remarkable collections relating to the Romanovs to be offered at auction," Sotheby`s quoted its experts, Marcus Linell and Olga Vaigatcheva as saying.
"Unknown for generations until their recent rediscovery, the objects, some of which still contain evidence of use by the Romanovs ...truly evoke the grandeur and sublime taste of their original owners," Sotheby`s said on its website.
The auction house said it expected to earn about 1 million British pounds ($1.6 mln) from the sale.
